Found in Malaysia, Java, Borneo and Sumatra in damp lowlands and hill forests at elevations of 300 to 1500 meters as a large sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with cylindrical, elongate, often purple flushed, becoming furrowed with age pseudobulbs carrying 2 to 4, strongly plicate, oblong, acuminate, shortly petiolate base leaves that become deciduous with age and blooms in the spring on 1 to 2, basal, to 8" [20 cm] long, 1 to 6 flowered inflorescence with large bracts and carrying fragrant flowers.
