Found in New Guinea in montane forests at elevations of 1300 meters as a large to giant sized, cool growing epiphyte with a short rhizome giving rise to terete, erect, strict to substrict, densely leafy stems carrying erect-patent, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate-ligulate, acute with a minute apicule, narrowing below into the base leaves that blooms in the early summer on a capitate, to 3.2" [8 cm] wide, many flowered inflorescence.

Schlechter states that the flowers are white with a golden spot at the base of the lip.
