Partial Shade Cold SummerFall

Common Name The Bolivian Altensteinia

Flower Size .8" [2 cm]

Found in Bolivia and Peru on grass and shrub covered rocky slopes and montane wet forests at elevations around 2200 meters as a medium szied, cold growing terrestrial with a stem enveloped by imbricating, lanceolate, oblanceolate, to ovate, acute, basally clasping leaves in a basal rosette, becoming clasping above that blooms in the summer through fall on an erect, terminal, long-pedunculate, racemose, to 20" [50 cm] long, conic-cylindric, densely many flowered, spicate inflorescence carrying non-resupinate flowers.

The photo above does not seem right as the erect inflorescence is not visible so as to appear pendent. but it is a very good match to Bennet & Christenson drawing.
