Common Name or Meaning Diels' Andinia [German Orchid Collector Ecuador 1900's]

Found in Chmborazo and Bolivar provinces of Ecuador in cloud forests at elevations of 2400 to 3400 meters as a small sized, cold growing, repent epiphyte with well spaced ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coricaeous, elliptical, acute to subacute, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a suberect, 2.8" [7 cm] long, loose, successively several flowered inflorescence arising from high on the ramicaul and has an oblique acute floral bract.
"Recognized by the ascending, repent habit with a short, successively flowered raceme. The color of the flowers varies through all shades and combinations of yellow, orange, red, brown and purple. The sepals are carinate, concave, apiculate and minutely ciliate. The petals are vestigal. The auriculate lateral lobes of the lip embrace the footless column and the apex is contracted into a small, concave lobule. Above and beow the column is a small, protruding, triangular callus that is variously developed." Luer 1991
