Found on Hainan island of southern China in damp shady locations in montane forests at elevations of 1000 to 1700 meters as a miniature sized, cool growing terrestrial with an ascending stem carrying 3 to 4, adaxially velvety black-greenish with dense golden reticulation, ovate, oblique, acute apically, narrowing below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter in cultivation on an erect, [6 to 7.5 cm] long, pubescent, successively single, 4 to 6 flowered inflorescence with 2 to 3 sterile bracts and ovate-lanceolate, shorter than the ovary, outer surface hairy, acuminate apically floral bracts and carrying resupinate, slightly fragrant flowers
