Found in the eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Bhutan and southeastern Xizang province of China in forests and along riverbanks at elevations of 2100 to 2600 meters as a large sized, cold growing terrestrial with an elongate rhizome covered in scales and giving rise to an erect stem with many membraneous sheaths that blooms in the early summer on an erect, 7.6" to 8.8" [19 to 22 cm] long, 10 to 20 flowered inflorescence with reflexed, linear to linear-lanceolate, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying widely spaced, spreading flowers
