Common Name The Japanese Apostasia

Flower Size 1/2" [1.2 cm]

Found in Vietnam and the Ryukyu Islands in shady broad-leaved evergreen lowland and submontane forests on shale, sandstone and granite at elevations of 300 to 1000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying a few, distant, ovate to elliptic, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, simple to 1 to 3 branched, 1 to 4 flowered inflorescence.

CAUTION!!!!Most references put this species as a synonym of A wallichii and most likely it is. I leave it separate as de Vogel in 1969 felt it was distinct but I agree that there is not much of a distinction.

Synonyms Apostasia wallichii subsp. nipponica (Masam.) Masam.1963; Apostasia wallichii var. nipponica (Masam.) Masam.1963
