Found in New Guinea at elevations around 1600 meters as a cool growing epiphyte that blooms in the early summer.

Schlechter states that along with A aberrans these species are distinguished by the fleshy, flat appendage of the lip, the widening towards the back and the relatively large bracts with irregular to split margins.
