Found in New Guinea at elevations around 1000 meters as a large sized, warm to cool growing lithophte to subepiphyte with a very short rhizome giving rise to erect, simple, substrict, terete, densely leafy stems carrying erect-patent, oblong-ligulate, obtuse, apically torn with a minute apicule in between leaves that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect-patent, terminal, pedunculate, elongate, 7.2" [18 cm] long, sublaxly 10 to 15 flowered, paniculate inflorescence with patent, elliptic, acute, as long as the ovary floral bracts.

Schlechter states that the flowers are entirely cherry red.
