Common Name Beccari's Arachnis [Italian Orchid Enthusiast 1800's]

Flower Size 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" [3.2 to 3.8 cm]

Found in Papua and New Guinea as a monopodial, hot to cool growing litho-terrestrial at elevations of 100 to 1500 meters growing among rocks on cliff faces and along river banks usually in very bright sun that blooms on a extending with time [3 to 4 years], axillary, erect then arching, eventually 12 to 15' [4 to 5 meters] long, branching, successively 1 to 2, laxly several flowered, older areas have a woody inflorescence with an extending, fractiflex rhachis of olive green and black compressed rhombic bracts carrying successively opening, thick, fleshy flowers occuring at any time of the year and the same inflorescence can rebloom sporadically for years but only with one or two flowers per inflorescence at any one time.
