Found in Sabah and Sarawak Borneo in lower montane forests and ridge top forests at elevations of 1400 to 2100 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte low down on moss covered trees or rarely as a terrestrial with erect, clustered stems enveloped completely by sheaths and carrying ovate-lanceolate, acute, papery, glabrous, imbricate, brown cataphyls and 2, apical, coriaceous, narrowly elliptic to oblong-elliptic, purplish beneath in youth, slightly to distinctly oblique, obtuse to subacute apically, conduplicate, cuneate to petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on 1 to 2, erect to porrect, 2 to 3.2" [5 to 8.5 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with 3 to 4, imbricate, ovate, obtuse, glabrous bracts and narrowly triangular, acute, membraneous floral bracts.
