Found in northern Vietnam in primary, humid, broad-leaved and mixed evergreen forests on granite at elevations of 1500 to 1550 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool growing terrestrial with an dull brownish pink with an olive tint, erect, leafy stem carrying 2 to 5, close set, spirally arranged, narrowly ovate to ovate, slightly obique, irregularily undulate along the margin, acute to shortly acuminate, velvety black with a white median stripe above, glossy pale purple brown beneath, shortly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later summer and early fall on a terminal, erect, straight, pink, more or less densely hairy with short, soft hairs, peduncle 3.2 to 6.4" [8 to 16 cm] long, provided with 1 to 3, sterile, tubular, triangular, obtuse bracts, rachis 2 to 4" [5 to 10 cm] long, lax, spirally arranged, 5 to 10 flowered inflorescence with pale pink-purple, outside sparsely hairy, narrowly triangular-ovate, tubular-convolute, acuteshorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying sessile, widely opening flowers
