Found in Cauca department of Colombia and Guyana in grasslands at elevations around 1700 meters as a medium sized [in bloom], cool growing terrestrial with a rhizome consisting of a subglobose corm ging rise to a single, basal, long-petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, to 24" [60 cm] long, arising laterally from the corm, not enveloped by the leaves, sparsely branching laxly 4 to 5 flowered inflorescence with lanceoalte-triangular, acuminate, as long as the pedicel flroal bracts and carrying rose-purple flowers.
This species has to have some affinities to B campanulata as it has been considered a synonym of that species in the past but is readily distinguished by the form of the lip middle lobe and taller more acute lamellae on the disc. Also B altilamellata has 7 lamellae and Bletia campanulata has 5.
