Found in western Mexico on rocky and grassy hills in open oak forests at elevations of 1300 to 1600 meters as a large to giant sized, cool growing terrestrial with 2 to 3, at flowering, plicate, elliptic, acute leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, arising with the leaves, 14" [35 cm] long, successively to 15 flowered inflorescence.
The description in Flora Novo-Galaciana says that the flower never opens better than in the photo.
