Found in Sao Paulo state of Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina as a small to medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with 5, basal leaves that are not present at blooming, giving rise to a terminal, thin, erect, glabrous above stem enveloped by 8, acuminate sheaths that blooms in the winter and spring on an erect, 4" [10 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence.
"This species approaches Brachystele widgrenii until you consider the laer inflorescence and the size of the floral segments. The lip of B cyclochila is three times larger than B widgrenii and the same goes form the sepals and petals.
Schlechter mentions he almost missed the lamina at the apex of the lip so it is not apparent in the drawing by Mansfield.
