Found in Jalisco state of Mexico in pine/oak forests at elevations of 2000 to 2160 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrrestrial with, 4, tuberous, descending, oblong-ellipsoid to claviform, glabrous roots giving rise to 1 to 2, petiolate base leaves that are not present at blooming occuring in the spring on an erect, peduncle 16" [40 cm] long, filiform, fleshy, provided with several imbricate below, multi-nerved, acuminate sheathing bracts, rachis 6" [1 5 cm] long, subcylindrical, slender, glabrous, increasingly denser towards the apex, successively opening to all at once, many flowered inflorescence with oblong-deltoid, 3 nerved, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small, spreading, beautiful flowers.
"Brachystele casillasii is distinguished from Schiedeella affinis by the inflorescence in a subcylindrical raceme, lax downwards, increasingly dense upwards; the dorsal sepal is rhombic-lanceolate, subobtuse and apiculate; the petals narrower than .04 to .-48" [1 to 1.3 mm] wide; the labellum is erect at the base, retroflex above, pandurate, the mesochile is elliptic-labeliform to obovate, wider in front of the middle, with three nerves, the marginal thickenings, rounded, scarcely thicker than the tissue that surrounds them; epichile iss retroflex, oblate, in general elliptical contour and bilobate." .González & Lizb.Hern. 2013
