Found in Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Congo, Zaire, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, and Natal & Transvaal of South Africa in tall grasslands, cleared woodlands, swamps and marshy ground at elevations of 800 to 1800 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with an erect, leafy below, becoming bract-like above stem carrying numerous, dark green, lanceolate, acute, glabrous leaves that blooms in the summer on a dense, [7 to 16 cm] long, densely several to many flowered inflorescence .
