Found in Tobago, Venezuela, and the Guianas, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil in wet montane forests at elevations of 150 to 1200 meters, as a medium sized, bifoliate, epiphytic, hot to cool growing orchid with ovate-elliptic to ovate-oblong, moderately compressed, sulcate, obtusely angled pseudobulbs and carrying 2 oblong, acuminate, carinate, thinly coriaceous, narrowing to a conduplicate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall in cultivation on an axillary, 2' [60 cm] long, suberect to arching, densly many [7 to 18] flowered inflorescence with showy, fragrant flowers arising on a mature pseudobulb.
