Common Name or Meaning The Shining Buchtienia [refers to its generally smooth and shiny appearance]

Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in Rio de Janiero and Sao Paulo states of Brazil at elevations around 500 meters as a giant sized, warm growing terrestrial with cylindrical-fusiform, pilose roots giving rise to a compact rosette of a few, present at anthesis, elliptic, obtuse apically, chartaceous, glabrous, attenuate below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, glabrous, peduncle 14.6 to 15.6" [36 to 39 cm] long, provided with 8, not appreseed, lanceolate sheathing bracts, racjhis 10.8 to 11.6" [27 to 29 cm] long, congested, to 120 flowered inflorescence with narrowly lanceolate, acute, glabrous, shorter to longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying resupinate, green flowers.

CAUTION!!!! For many years this species has been assumed to be a Sauroglossum specifically, in error, Sauroglossum nitidum, but that species TYPE and basionym is Serapias nitida Velloza as illustrated here which has been moved to the genus Buchtienia thereby becoming Buchtienia nitida, so the Sauroglossum species photo illustrated here - this linkat this time is without a name as far as I can tell.
