Found in penninsular Malaysia, Brunei and Sabah Borneo in tall open forests on slopes at elevations of 1300 to 1500 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with a short creeping rhizome with .4 to .8" [1 to 2 cm] between eachminute, spheroid to ovoid, not laterally flattened pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, elliptic to ovate, acute, petiolate base leaf that blooms on a basal, peduncle patent to pendulous, 1.8 to 6" [4,5 to 15 cm] long, provided with 5 to 6 scales, rachis pendulous, 3.2 to 6" [8 to 15 cm] long, elongated, rather lax, mostly simultaneously, 10 to 25 flowered inflorescence with longer than the ovary floral bracts.

Differs from Bulbophyllum korthalsii but B arachnites has a flat to slightly concave apex to the lip and is more distinctly constricted approx half way along the length.
