Common Name The SilkWorm Like Bulbophyllum [refers to the velvety surface of the lip]
Flower Size .4" [1 cm]
Found in Papua New Guinea on tree trunks at elevations around 1400 meters as miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with a creeping rhizome with .16 to .2" [.4 to .5 cm] between each obliquely erect, ovoid, with or without a slightly drawn out apical part pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, erect, ovate, acute to acuminate, petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect to patent, peduncle .48 to .56" [1.2 to 1.4 cm] long, 2 bracted, 1.6 to 2.2" [4.5 to 5.5 cm] long overall, single flowered inflorescence with tubular, apiculate floral bracts.
According to J J Vermuellen this orchid is closest to B muriaceum but differs in the ciliolate sepals and a partly papillose-pubesacent lip.
