Found in the eastern Himalayas Nepal, Bhutan, India, Thailand to Vietnam and southern China at elevations around 1100 to 2100 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with 5 angled, deeply grooved, squat pseudobulbs carrying a 2 to 3, apical, elliptic, acute leaves that blooms in the summer on a basal, erect, 6" [15 cm] long, subdensely 10 to 20 flowered, deflexed inflorescence with foetid smelling flowers.

Easily distinguished from others in the Section by the presence of 2, large leaves at blooming. It is similar to B triste but it flowers in the spring from a basal, leafless pseudobulb.
