Found in Papua New Guinea from an unknown location as a mini-miniature sized epiphyte withclose set, erect to suberect, ellipsoid to ovoid to subovoid pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, elliptic, acute to apiculate, petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect to patent, peduncle 4 to 4.52" [10 to 11.3 cm] long, 2 bracted, 4.4 to 5" [11 to 12.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with an tubular, acute floral bract.

According to J J Vermuellen - "The only other species in SECTION Monanthes [Bl] Avery. 1994 with a lump at the tip of the lip is B. lichenoides Schltr. Bulbophyllum chalcochloron differs in having a ciliate dorsal sepal, caudate and ciliate petals, and a lip with short hairs without a swollen tip. It is also a much larger plant."
