Found only in New Guinea in range forests at elevations around 2500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with close set,ovoid pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, linear to ligulate, apiculate, narrowing into the base leaf that blooms in the late spring on a very short, few bracted, single flowered inflorescence.

Schlechter states that the species has a column that differs from the Bulbophyllum form and the petals are very small as well as the flowers are dark carmine red
