Found in Yunnan province of China, Nepal, eastern Himalayas, Sikkim, Bhutan, India, Nepal, western Himalayas, Myanmar and Thailand in forests on trees and rocks at elevations of 1400 to 2400 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte or lithophyte with a creeping, stout rhizome with .2 to .25" [5 to 7 mm] between each very small to absent pseudobulb and carrying a rigid, erect, elliptic-oblong to obovate-lanceolate, fleshy to leathery, obtuse to apiculate, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, channeled, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall and early winter on basal, erect then arching to pendent, densely many flowered inflorescence can be up to 12 to 18" [ 30 to 45 cm] long and has a basal sheath .
