Common Name The Mt. Digoel Bulbophyllum [A mountain Irian Jaya to the west of the border with Papua New Guinea]

Flower Size 3" [7.5 cm]

Found in western New Guinea in rainforests on tall trees at elevations of 80 to 400 meters as a small sized, hot growing epiphyte on lower trunks and branches of large trees with mosses and ferns at the root base with small ovoid to conical, smooth becoming rugose with age pseudobulbs 1 to 1 3/4" apart carrying a single, apical leaf and blooms in the fall on a lateral, basal, 22" [to 55 cm] long, longer than the leaf, dark green to maroon brown, to 20" [50 cm] long, successively single, to 12 floweres inflorescence with sheathing bracts and a fractiflex rhachis that carries a single, nodding flower at a time and occurs over several months.
