Found in southeastern Madagascar in humid evergreen forests at elevations of 1100 to 1800 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with an ovoid, 4 angled, brick red pseudobulbs carrying 2 apical, oblong, shortly contracted towards the base leaves that blooms in the spring on a basal, 4.8 to 10" [12 to 25 cm] long, slightly verrucose, loosely 12 to 20 flowered inflorescence enveloped basally by a few large, loose sheaths and has narrowly lanceolate, acute, single veined floral bracts.
