Found in Papua New Guinea in range forests at elevations around 1000 to 2800 meters as a mini-miniature to small sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with a branching rhizome giving rise to close set, .8 to 2.2" [2 to 5.5 cm] apart, oblong to subglobose pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, ligulate, apiculate leaf that blooms in the summer on a very short, few bracted, single flowered inflorescence.
Schlechter states that the flowers of B simile are white with a lip that is brown that becomes yellow with time.
Schlechter states that the flowers of B erythrochilum are white with a cinnabar red lip .
