Found in New Guinea in the Torricelli Range at elevations of 1000 to 1200 meters as a medium sized, cool growing epiphyte with a very short rhizome giving rise to thin, ovoid psuedobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, oblong-ligulate, subacute, narrowing into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late winter and early spring in New Guinea on an erect, 3 flowered, 14" [to 35 cm] long inflorescence with elliptic, 2 times shorter than the pedicellate ovary floral bracts.

This species is similar and related to B tristelidium but differs in the weaker growth and the toothed labellum. The Flowers are pale yellow with a lip that is reddish on the upper side.
