Found in central eastern Madagascar in humid evergreen forests at elevations of 1000 to 1700 meters as a medium sized, cool growing epiphyte or terrestrial with a thick rhizome giving rise to oval, , 6 angled, yellow pseudobulbs carrying 2 apical, elliptic to oblong, narrowing below into the shortly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring on a basal, erect, peduncle 12.8 to 16" [32 to 40 cm] long, enveloped by 10 to 11, thin, very obtuse, two uppermost flared and shorter bracts, dense, cylindrical, thicker than the peduncle, rachis 4 to 5" [12.5 to 15 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with half as long as the flower floral bracts and caryring flowers with the exterior covered by dull, short, stiff hairs.
