Common Name The Dramatic Bulbophyllum [possibly refers to the showy habit of the species]

Flower Size

Found in Antsiranana in northern Madagascar in dry to subhyumid lowland forests at elevations of 100 to 350 meters as a miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte with a creeping rhizome giving rise to green suffused with red, orbicular to slightly ovoid, often touching each other to imbricate, flattened, not angled pseudobulbs carrying 2, apical, greeny yellow often suffused with red, ovate-oblong to oblong-lanceolate, obtuse to slightly oblique, very thick, coriaceous, shortly conduplicate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on a horizontal, peduncle, red, not swollen, 3.2 to 4.8" [8 to 12 cm] long, provided with 4 to 5 tubular, acute, membraneous, nerved, glabrous bracts, rachis red, pendulous, swollen a thte nodes, sunulate, glabrous to fine granulate, 8 to 12" [20 to 30 cm] long overall, laxly spirally arranged, many simultaneously, to 35 flowered inflorescence with red, triangular, acute, basally broadly attached, membraneous, glabrous, longer than the ovary floral bracts

Similar to B pervillei but differs in the elliptic leves, the lax flowered inflorescence, yellowish ovate-oblong sepals with an acuminate tip, the ovate-oblong petals and the strongly papillose lip.
