Common Name The Macrantha-Like Bulbophyllum

Flower Size 2" [5 cm]

Found in Papua and New Guinea as a hot to cool growing epiphyte with 4" [10 cm] between each pseudobulb that blooms on a stout, short, basal, erect, leaf length, single flowered inflorescence.

Give this species cool to hot conditions with partial shade, good air circulation and high humidity.

CAUTION For 85 years the Madagascan orchid described by Schlechter in 1924 as B rhizomatosum has searched for a species name that was valid. Ames in 1920 and Schlechter in 1923 himself had both used the name B rhizomatosum previously so the name was invalid. Kittridge described Bulbophyllum obtusilabium in 1985/86 and somehow this name was put forward as a valid name for B rhizomatosum Schltr. 1924 Madagascar but Kittridge was describing a plant from Papua New Guinea which also has a synonym named B rhizomatosum described by Schlechter in 1923 so it is invalid as well. In 2009 Anton Seider and Mr Kiehn renamed B rhizomatosum Schltr. 1924 as B reifii and so it is today. So all references attributed to B obsusilabium occuring in Madagascar are in error as it is really found in Papua New Guinea
