Found in New Guinea in montane forest at elevations of 759 to 3794 meters as a miniature to small sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with a stout, elongated, branched rhizome entirely covered with large, wide, tubular, shortly acuminate, scales with .32 to .5" [.8 to 1.25 cm] between each, basal part appressed to the rhizome and underneath concave, apex patent, truncate, fleshy, enclosed in youth by sheaths and carrying a single, apical, narrowly lanceolate, acute, when dried coriaceous; nerve underneath in the top part prominent; midrib above grooved, gradually somewhat narrowed below into the conduplicate petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer from the nodes of the rhizome, branched-fascicled, numerous, to c. 16 to 18 in each fascicle. c.2 to 5" [7.5 to 12.5 cm] long; the base covered with small tubular sheaths, in basal half with c. 3 small, tubular, shortly acuminate sheaths, single flowered inflorescence with tubular, above widened, obliquely truncate, obtuse, keeled floral bracts and carrrying flowers spotted red brown with a lip with the base and the apex dark brown.
