Found in Sabah Borneo in primary forests at elevations around 1800 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing epiphyte with a creeping rhizome with close set, ovoid, somewhat flattened, prostrate on and fused to the rhizome so that the new pseudobulb arises near the apex of the previous pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, elliptic, obtuse, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the later summer on a lateral slightly arching, peduncle 2 to 2.4" [5 to 6 cm] long, provided with 2 basal bracts, rachis 1.2 to 1.4" [3 to 3.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with tubular, acuminate, much shorter than the ovary floral bracts carrying flowers that do not open well with a transparent yellow median sepal with 5 nerves the outer 2 crimson and the inner ones orange, the lateral sepals are deep orange yellow with a crimson base, the petals are crimson with an orange-red median line, the lip isc rimosn with a large orange red median spot and the column is crimson with an orange red anther with yellow margins.
Most similar to B mindorense but it has smaller, non finely papilose margined flowers with much narrower petals and has a small tooth along the lower margin of the stelida. B schefferi also has a similar lip but it differs in smaller flowers and a narrowly triangular stelidia.
