Found in Yunnan province of ChinaNepal and Bhutan on mossy mid-sized tree trunks and main branches, growing in partial shade on trees on the edges and in openings of Quercus forest at elevations around 2400 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing, mat forming epiphyte with a creeping, stout, dark brown rhizome with .4 to 1.6" [1 to 4 cm] between each obliquely ovoid-conical, greenish, lower half enclosed by a transparent, net-veined sheath pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, ligulate-lanceolate, sub-acute, obscurely bilobed, leathery leaf that blooms in the later spring on a pendulous, lateral from the pseudobulb base, peduncle slender, with 3 overlapping, brown, membraneous, tubular sheaths, 1.4 to 2" [3.5 to 5 cm] long, 1 to 3 flowered inflorescence with lanceoalte, acute, concave, brownish, tinged purple-brown floral bracts.
