Common Name The Buffoon Bulbophyllum [refers to the flowers that seem to show off a fur lined king's mantle]

Flower Size 2.4" [6 cm]

Found in Papua New Guinea on small trees at elevations around 920 meters as miniature sized, warm growing epiphyte with .6 to 1.2" [1.5 to 3 cm] between each erect, ovoid pseudobulb carrying a single apical, erect, elliptic, obtuse leaf, that blooms on an erect to patent, peduncle 3.2 to 3.6" [8 to 9 cm] long, 3 bracted, 4.6 to 5.2" [11.5 to 13 cm] long overall, single flowered inflorescence with tubular, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

According to J J Vermuellen this orchid is closest to B maxillare but differs in the undulating, densely ciliate lower margins of the lateral sepals with acute tips making them appear as bird wings.
