Found in New Guinea, the Phillipines, Sulawesi, Samoa, Fiji and Vanuatu in primary forests at elevations of sea level to 3400 meters [see below] as a miniature to large sized [length of rhizome], hot to cold growing epiphyte with ovoid to ellipsoid pseduobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, ovate to elliptic, acute, narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer through fall on a .25 to 2.8" [.6 to 7 cm] long, 2 to 9 flowered inflorescence with triangular floral bracts.

The flower in the photo is Bulbophyllum savaiense subsp. subcubicum and is found in New Guinea, Sulawesi and the Phillipines at elevations of sea-level to 2000 meters as a medium sized [length of rhizome], hot to warm growing epiphyte.

The plants of Bulbophyllum savaiense subsp. gorumense (Schltr.) J.J.Verm. 1993 are found in New Guinea, Sulawesi and the Phillipines at elevations of 2300 to 3400 meters as a to large sized [length of rhizome], cold growing epiphyte and has inflorescence longer than .6" [1.6 cm] and lateral sepals from .1 to .2" [2.8 mm to 4.8mm]

The plants of Bulbophyllum savaiense var savaiense can be found only in Vanuatu, Fiji and Samoa and occur at elevations of 300 to 700 meters as a miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte with very short lateral sepals.
