Common Name Schiller's Bulbophyllum [German Orchid Enthusiast 1800's] - In Australia The Red Rope Orchid
Flower Size 3/8" or less [less than 1 cm]
Endemic to Queensland and New South Wales Australia in mangrove swamps up to elevations of 100 to 1250 meters as a pendant, unifoliate, miniature sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with 1" [2.5 cm] between each, insignificant, globular to ovoid to cylindrical pseudobulb carrying a single, thick, succulent, minutely punctate, short lanceolate to long oblong, acute, shallowly sulcate, flat and thin to subterte to long, straight to curved leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on many, very short .12 to .16" [.3 to .4 cm], stubby, fasciculate inflorescence with the flowers held close to the the rhizome.
This species is best mounted to accomodate the pendant growth habit and needs hot to warm temperatures, high humidity and good air circulation to grow well.
