Found only in Sulawesi [if you have a plant from Borneo see below = B conspectum] in high montane mossy forests at elevations of 1200 to 2100 meters as a small sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with a woody rhizome giving rise to 1 " to 4" [2.5 to 10 cm] between each small, discoid pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, rather thick, ovate to elliptic, dark to olive green, sometimes suffused with purple and has a long petiolate base leaf, that blooms in the summer in situ on a basal, 2 to 12" [5 to 30 cm] long, 1 to 12 flowered inflorescence with tubular, elliptic floral bracts.
Recent research has determined that all specimen from Borneo are actually B conspectum. They are separated morphologically by B sopoetanense having 2 pollina [B conspectum has 4], slightly larger flowers, as well as the vegetative parts that are not suffused with ochre and the flowers are white, tinged with pale [green] yellow.
