Common Name The Braided Bubophyllum [referring to the overlapping pattern of pseudobulbs and leaves]

Found in Papua New Guinea at elevations around 2800 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with a patent to pendulous, sparsely branched rhizome with .16 to .32" [.4 to .8 cm] between each distinct, ellipsoid to ellipsoid-rectangular to obovoid to ovoid-rectangular, deeply concave on the side where the new shoot arises, 3-angular pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, erect, probably somewhat succulent but dorsoventrally flattened, elliptic to ovate, acute, petiolate base leaf that blooms in spring on clustered from the basal node of the pseudobulbs, peduncle .12 to .24" [3 to 6 mm] long, provided with a single scale, .4 to .8" [1 to 2 cm] long overall, single flowered inflorescence with shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying flowers with purple sepals that are white towards the margins.
