Common Name The Narrow Plant Bulbophyllum [Refers to the narrow leaves]
Flower Size 1/2"+ [1.3 cm]
Found in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Horn Islands and Vanuatu in hill country on trunks of large trees at elevations of 800 to 900 meters as a miniature to small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with a subcylindric to narrowly ovoid and conical, attenuate, green to yellow green, ventrally deeply channeled pseudobulb that is partially enveloped basally by a sheath when young, and carrying a single apical, erect, short and semi-terete petiole, linear, keeled, acute leaf, that has a basal, slender, 1 1/2 to 1 3/4" [40 to 45 mm] long, single flowered inflorescence that holds the delicate, diurnal flower at mid-leaf.
This species flowers in the fall and has flowers that open during the day and close at night and last several days. This species really needs to be mounted on tree fern or a large pendant hanging branch as the plant habit has the pseudobulb and leaf as well as the inflorescence sticking out from the tree at a right angle.
