Found in Thailand, Burma, Penninsular Malaysia, Vietnam, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, the Philippines and Vanuatu high up in primary montane forests at elevations of 200 to 1700 meters as a small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte on mossy trees in good shade with closely tufted, terete, dark green stems enveloped basally by dry, membraneous sheaths and carrying an almost terete, broadly grooved on one side leaf tapering from the base to the apex that blooms in the early spring arising from the scarious basal bracts on very short, single flowered inflorescence with spidery hairs .
