Found in Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jianxi, Hubei, Hunan and Sichuan China in humus rich soils in open forests or shady locations along valleys at elevations of 400 to 1800 meters as a mini-miniature to miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with nearly ellipsoid to broad ovoid, fleshy, nearly yellowish white, 2 noded pseudobulbs enveleloped by membraneous sheaths and carrying a single, broadly ovate-elliptic to broadly elliptic, purple-red below, acute to shortly acuminate apically, rounded to nearly truncate into the petilolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, 4 to 7" [10 to17.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with 2 membraneous basally clasping bracts and small deciduous, floral bracts.
