This is an Ecuadorean and Peruvian species from wet, montane forests found at elevations of 900 to 1800 meters. It has several axillary, lateral to pendant at ground level, 1 1/5" [3 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence held at the base of the imbricating, distichous, obovate, shortly acuminate leaves that are narrowing into a subpetiolate base having a fragrant flower, although it is a foul fragrance and occuring in the spring in cultivation.
