Found in Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gulf of Guinea Islands, Zaire, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Cape Province, Natal, Mauritus, Reunion and Madagascar in deep shade in dense forests at elevations of 550 to 1400 meters as a giant sized, warm to cool growing, mycoheterotrophic orchid with semi-woody stems carrying narrowly ovate to elliptic, wavy margined leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect to drooping, terminal to axillary, to 16 flowered inflorescence
