Found in Choco' department of Colombia in in exposed sites in lower montane forests at elevations around 900 meters as a smallsized, warm growing terrestrial with an creeping, terete rhizome giving rise to an erect stem carrying 6, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, acute to subacute, subpetiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, peduncle 2.68" [6.7 cm] long, with one lanceolate, acute sheathing bract, rachis to 8.68" [21.7 cm] long, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying green flowers.
Similar to C tipuloides but the flowers are smaller, and the lip has glabrous margins. Its closest relative is the Ecuadorian C harlingii whicxh externally idfentical. The 2 differ in details of the lip callus. C chocoensis has thin flat lobules while C harlingii has thick, fleshy lobules. Szlach & Kolan 2023
