Common Name The Elliptic Crossoglottis [refers to the leaves]
Flower Size .08" [2mm]
Found in Cocle province of Panama, Putumayo department of Colombia? and Ecuador? in wet montane forests at elevations of 950 to 1250 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial or epiphyte with short, leafy stems enveloped by leaf sheaths and carrying several, elliptic, narrowly obtuse to abruptly acute, slightly undulate margins, membraneous, gradually narrowing below into the subpetiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on a terminal, erect, elongate, 8 to 12" [20 to 30 cm] long, densely many flowered, racemose inflorescence with ovate, acuminate, fimbriate dentate, cucullate floral bracts and carrying resupinate, greenish flowers.
The type drawing above is absolutely correct of a panamanian plant. The photo above is from a Colombian plant photographed in the Sibundoy valley of southern Colombia and is close but not eact to the type. There have been 2 collections of plants from Ecuador that appear to be this species so it probably comes from all three countries
