Found in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Jamaica, Panamá and Antioquia, Risralda and Cundinamarca departments of Colombia in forest edges at elevations of 1950 to 2900 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a basal rosette of 2 to 10, elliptic to ovate, acute, margins more or less undulate to undulate-crispate, narrowly canaliculate below into the 3.6" [9 cm] long, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter and spring on an erect, rather delicate, glabrous below, glandular in the upper half, peduncle 5 to 16.4" [12.5 to 42 cm] long, provided with 3 to 6, sparsely glandular in the upper part becoming densely glandular at the apex sheathing bracts, rachis 3 to 5.2" [7.5 to 13 cm] long, loosely 2 to 10, rarely more, secund inflorescence with linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small flowers.
