Common Name or Meaning The Variegated Leaf Cystorchis

Flower Size .175" x .3" [4.5 x 7.5 mm]

Found in Borneo, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, the Philippines and Vanuatu in lowland, hill and montane forests on sandstone at elevations around 200 to 1500 meters as a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial orchid with a decumbent, terete stem rooting all along, and then ascending for 1 to 2" [2.5 to 4.5 cm] turning pale green and having 5 to 6, obliquely ovate, acute, undulate margins, velvety red-brown [var purpurea] and green with paler veins [var variegata] and paler below on both, narrowing to the channeled petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, terete, pubescent, 4.8 to 6.6" [12 cm to 16.5 cm] long, many [10 to 12] flowered inflorescence with 2 tubular sheaths and ovate, pubescent, concave, reddish floral bracts and all the flowers held toward the apex.
