A miniature to small sized, cold growing terrestrial from Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Yugoslavia in full sun near springs, seepages and marshy hollows in the mountains at elevations of 1500 to 2600 meters with 3 t o5, oval to elliptical, sometimes almost orbicular, spotted leaves with the uppermost 1 to 2 being bract-like, that blooms in the late spring and summer on an erect, terminal, 4 to 8" [10 to 20 cm] long, racemose, cylindrical inflorescence with leaflike bracts and many flowers.
